Viagra® and Cialis® are two very similar treatments (they have the same mode of action) but Viagra®, having been invented earlier, has greater visibility with the general public.

Generic Viagra® also became available first. The pharmaceutical patent of Viagra® has indeed fallen into the public domain in 2013, allowing the arrival on the market of its less expensive generic version: Sildenafil. As for Tadalafil , the generic of 시알리스®, it has been marketed since 2017.

Price, effectiveness, advantages and disadvantages of treatments for erection

Sildenafil or tadalafil?

Sildenafil is the generic of Viagra® (its trade name), and Tadalafil is the generic of Cialis® . They have very similar active ingredients and basically work the same way. However, there are more contraindications to Cialis® which can therefore be prescribed to fewer people.

The main difference is that 시알리스® (Tadalafil) is effective for longer, up to 36 hours, during which time it will facilitate an erection if you are sexually stimulated. Viagra® (Sildenafil) is effective for 4-6 hours and should be taken 1 hour before intercourse. Cialis® tablets can be taken in the morning and will still be effective in the evening.

시알리스® is also available as a daily treatment. The daily tablets contain a low dose of tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis®, and are suitable for men who have sex more than twice a week. There is no daily version of Sildenafil.

Viagra or Levitra?

Viagra® contains sildenafil and Levitra® , which ceased marketing in May 2021, contained vardenafil . Generic Vardenafil remains available and is sold by prescription by several laboratories. The speed and duration of action of these 2 drugs being very similar (between 4 to 6 hours), their price is the main difference. On average, a box of 4 tablets of Levitra® 20 mg cost around €46 compared to €52 for a box of 4 tablets of Viagra® 50 mg (the most commonly prescribed dosage).
