In light of the shocking revelations of the studio's "D2R Items" culture it's an issue that we must think about Blizzard games, too.

In a number of ways this gorgeously made remaster of Diablo 2 is unlucky to be Blizzard's first release since that the State of California brought suit against the studio. Much of the work on the game was carried out through Vicarious Visions, a blameless company that was only partnered with Blizzard earlier in the year.

(Indeed it's the former studio head Jen Oneal was recently named co-leader of Blizzard the new broom presumably intended to oversee the process of reform.) What's more, the original 2000 game was developed in the hands of Blizzard North. It's an independent studio distinct from the SoCal parent company.

Diablo 2 is an adopted kid of Blizzard culture, at the very best. However, Diablo helped set the Blizzard tone, too, with its neo-metal-inspired aesthetic and kitchen sink lore, as well as cutting-edge online multiplayer, and the final game of deep abyssal complication and depth.

It's important to spell the whole thing out, but it's not my place as a critic to say how you should consider playing Blizzard games in 2021. It's an individual choice. Personally, as someone who enjoys the games of the studio, I am conflicted and still undecided.

It's just that I've let it play no impact on the rest of the review. That's but not saying I do not have complex feelings about Diablo 2: Resurrected for different reasons.

Diablo 2 is a beast of a game that 21 years on, still leaves a long-lasting impression over the tortured development of its successor (a the fate Diablo 4 doesn't seem to escape, either) as well as over the action-RPG genre that it defined.

As influential as it has been, it's still a single bloody-minded, almost awkward piece of work and, in a way, a very outdated Diablo 2 Resurrected buy items. The crucial thing to be aware of regarding Diablo 2: Resurrected is that it has done almost nothing to change this, for better or worse (spoilers for you: it's both).
